One of the reasons why I love this job is because I get to be invited to these gorgeous weddings! Joe and I went to Cambridge, Ontario for Tutu and Rob's tradional Lao wedding. To see Joee's photos, go here: http://jwphotography.ca/blog/2008/05/18/wedding-tr-laotian-style-part-1/ I hung out with the bride before the ceremony.
We also hung out with her beautiful Made of Honour...
...and the cute flower girls!
On to the ceremony, the groom was met by the bride's family and he was asked a series of questions and he had to answer them politely. Just think of it as an interview, the groom had to convince them that he is worthy before they actually let him in!
While the 'interrogation' was happening, the bride was patiently waiting inside :)
The bride and groom then sat down in front of phakouanh. They took blessed strings from the phajouanh and held them between 'praying hands'
Then there's the exchange of the weding rings
And finally, their families took short blessed strings from the tree and tied them around the bride's and groom's wrists to keep away the bad spirits!
And of course, they have to be blessed by MONKS...
... they also asked for their families' blessing
What a lovely family!
To Tutu and Rob, CONGRATULATIONS!!! May your lives be filled with Happiness and Love!!
